Boroma (Mozambique): A nursery for 70 children

In the village of Boroma, Mozambique, a center of human development for women has recently been established: its first activity is a workshop in sewing and dressmaking. But in the mind of the Missionary Sisters this dressmaking school is the starting point for a subsequent expansion of the center’s activities.

The Sisters’ dream would be an improvement of the nursery school. Since May 2014, about 70 children aged three to six, whose mothers are the women in the sewing project as well as other women who work in the fields, gather in a room in the mission compound. They are accompanied by four teachers and two educators who develop socialization activities, cooperative games, plays, basic gymnastics and introduction to reading and writing. But they lack teaching material, chairs and …even a proper toilet.

Sisters Terezinha Rinaldi and Darlene Francisca Lima need $8,870 in order to have a toilet built for the nursery, to buy kitchen equipment (like pans and pots) where the children’s lunch is prepared, and for the purchase of 70 chairs and 6 tables, as well as IT equipment (like a PC, a Projector and a Photocopying Machine), writing paper, and classroom stationery (like chalk, watercolors, pens, pencils, notebooks, etc.).

This project will provide Boroma with a fully equipped nursery, under the supervision of the Sisters. Monday to Friday daily care of the children will be guaranteed, with adequate literacy training as well as recreational activities. When they reach school age, children will be able to enter primary school not only with better knowledge, but also with training in hygiene, and a valuable experience in socialization.

The Sisters believe that the nursery will have a great impact also in the lives of the children’s mothers, who will be freer to attend courses in sewing and dressmaking offered at Boroma Mission and also to work in their fields.

As much as we try, we cannot help the sisters realize this dream by ourselves. We need the support of people like you
