Help for Disadvantaged Youths Living in Slums!
Saint-Joseph Mukasa Parish in Kahawa West serves nearly 1.5 million people, many of them children and adolescents, living in three shantytowns on the outskirts of Nairobi. Often, these young people have a difficult time finding employment when they complete their studies. A number of them work as volunteers in organizing leisure and parish activities. They are well intentioned but their training is limited, having received only casual guidance from the missionaries.
Father James Githinji Munene, IMC, would like to see these young people, already committed to parish activities, receive superior training. This would not only allow them to help others, but they would also take themselves in hand – by organizing parish activities in a responsible and effective manner.
The proposed project must be coordinated with the Ministry of Youth, which will give the Catholic youth of Kahawa West a wider range of opportunities in eventually joining the labor force.

The training would serve 140 young people, and include accommodation and food, as well as school supplies, for seven days. It would be given on location in the parish, and it would include a spiritual and moral component. Periodicals and documents on social development would be distributed and DVDs would be shown.
The planning and execution of such seminars requires adequate monetary resources. Father James is extending a hand, in the hope of raising the required sum and coming to the aid of disadvantaged
youths – to train a generation which, is turn, will educate the generation that follows.
The project needs a little more than $12,000 to go ahead. Are you among those who will help these youths reach beyond their current horizons?
