Help families suffering from earthquake aftermath in Mexico

Three years ago, on September 7, 2017, a disastrous earthquake struck Chiapas and other areas in southern Mexico. About a hundred people died; many more were injured; 41,000 homes were damaged.

Consolata missionaries are present in Chiapas with a small community in Tuxtla, the capital. Immediately after the quake, they worked to come to the aid of those most affected with food, clothing and emergency aid.

Now, in the small town of Nueva Palestina, Father Patrick, the superior of our community, has started a targeted intervention aimed at thirty families, with absent fathers, whose psychological situation and domestic economy, have been compromised by the earthquake and have not yet found a satisfactory solution.

To help him deal with the situation, Father Patrick turned to the University of Chiapas, which he attends. In recent months, with the supervision of the Athenaeum, he formed a team of experts as volunteers. They set up a program to take care of the physical and psychological health of the mothers and their children. They thought of creating a source of economic sustenance: a botanical garden where the assisted grow food products as well as medicinal herbs for their needs and for sale to others.

These two programs need an economic support of about $10,000 for their start-up: – purchase of medicines; – garden fencing; – seeds, agricultural tools, irrigation systems; – kitchen equipment; – as well as the construction of home ovens; etc.

Let’s give a hand to Fr. Patrick, who works for the restoration of psycho/physical health and the escape from poverty of the women of Nueva Palestina, Mexico.

Through this project they are offered not only medical assistance, but also an activity within their reach, which involves them personally and aims at a long-term and decisive result.

On behalf of the women who will be empowered by this project, we thank you in advance for your most generous support.
